Team SPEARHEAD is once again supporting The Second Harvest Food Bank in Charlotte. We are once again going to hold a Canned Food Drive in conjunction with local Charlotte Breweries, Food Stores and The Second Harvest Food Bank.

At BREW Ruck 003 - Instead of carrying coupons, we will be carrying canned foods and dropping them off at the local drop off point in uptown Charlotte.

- Launch will be close to South End and likely to be between 10-11:00 AM

- End point will be at VBGB at the Music Factory

- Participants are expected to bring rucks loaded with canned food

- BREW Ruck 003 Commemorative Patch (Design TBD)

- Team will organize to bring whatever creative carrying containers that could be useful during the Ruck to carry the canned food from the drop-off locations.

- We will be stopping at multiple breweries along the way for well deserved "breaks".

- We will be hauling a lot of food for a good cause

- This event is open to all who would like to attend. We hope to get a large group together to support this great cause!

An Evening and Book Signing with Dr. Howard Fuller
Tue, 14 Oct 2014 18:00:00 +0000

We have all been on the front-lines working for the progress of all people.

Dr. Howard Fuller has committed his life to that purpose and in some ways you can say he’s written the playbook.

It’s called No Struggle, No Progress: A Warrior’s Life from Black Power to Education Reform. The book chronicles Dr. Fuller’s journey from empowering poor, black communities to being on the forefront of education reform in America and is now available through Marquette University Press. Moreover, No Struggle, No Progress includes several chapters capturing Dr. Howard Fuller, or as a few North Carolinians knew of him in the 1960’s and 70’s, Owusi Sadaukai. North Carolina has a special place in Dr. Fuller’s heart and I hope you’ll join us to make this evening ever so special.

Therefore, we invite you to be our special guest for a special celebration and book signing of Dr. Fuller’s book on the evening of October 14th.

The event will be held at 6p.m. at the International Civil Rights Museum in Greensboro.

We hope you will join us in celebrating the life and work of Dr. Fuller. Please feel free to bring family, friends, students, as well as spread the word throughout your community.

**Please RSVP using the form above and be sure to enter the name and email of each person in your group who will be attending.**

Crochet (Hair) Class
Sat, 11 Oct 2014 10:00:00 +0000

This is a Level 1 Crochet Class in which we will go over a versatile-crochet style.  I will cover the basic braiding pattern, how to secure the cornrows, how to secure the crochet hair, and how to do a basic cut.  There are two techniques I use with my crochet that I have yet to see anyone else do. This is what keeps the style looking natural with full coverage.

The class includes snacks and drinks, a starter crochet kit, and prizes—one of which will include a $100 reimbursement of the class fee.  You do not need to bring a mannequin (unless you want to), I will provide the braiding foundation.

Please note, watching a Youtube video and having someone instruct you, hands-on, are two different things.

Come excited, with questions, ready to learn, and to have fun!

Do What Matters - Raleigh/Durham - January 27-28
Tue, 27 Jan 2015 09:00:00 +0000

A two-day training experience for church leaders
January 27 & 289am - 3:30pm
How are faithful Christian disciples formed today? What sustains them through a lifetime? How can congregations make a real difference?

ABOUT #VFDWMThe approaches we’ve used in the past are no longer adequate in today’s digital, individualized, highly secularized culture. Yet, some innovative approaches to highly relational discipling are showing promise. The new efforts covered in this training will help your congregation create authentic Christian community that beckons persons of all ages—children, youth, adults—into an exciting journey of both faith and religious practice.
This interactive training experience seeks to help leaders imagine and implement effective faith formation practices for today and for future generations. Anchored in recent research, propelled by the urgent need for change, yet tempered by decades of leadership in the field, VFM trainers will guide participants toward:

  • understanding the profound cultural changes affecting faith development processes today
  • exploring the process of faith transmission from generation to generation through the extended family and congregational systems
  • experiencing and developing innovative congregational approaches that apply the essential faith-forming processes to people of all ages
  • developing a practical plan for the future of faith formation with all ages in your congregation
TOPICS
  1. The Vision – a theological and ecclesial vision for genuinely relational formation in faith.
  2. The Processes – eight key faith formation processes anchored in the theological and ecclesial vision and support by recent research.
  3. The Transforming Encounter – as revealed in Scripture, the lives of Saints, as well those around us, God breaks into the lives of persons of all ages and is revealed through these encounters.
  4. The Congregation – innovated ways the congregation can become a catalyst for faith formation in key settings: home/family/daily life, the digital/online world, and in the wider community.
  5. The Plan – using the eight faith formation processes, participants will engage in a facilitated process of planning for effective, lifelong faith formation.
  6. The Leaders – the training experience concludes with a session exploring relational leadership designed to empower the community to nurture and tell their story.
